THEMSKATES - Animated Titles & Credits

As a rollerblader and fan of the THEM brand and team, I was contacted to create a title animation for the edit “KODEHOUSE” featuring Koda Hult and Randy Spizer. Settling on a style reminiscent of stop-motion inflatables, the title leans into a diy, grungy, yet fun tone reflected by the rest of the video.

The process of creating the animation was an accelerated one, involving modeling and procedural animation in Blender, camera tracking, and developing a convincing yet light-on-resources balloon “pop” effect for the title’s exit as Koda hops onto a curb. The effect and distortion was further sweetened in After Effects, where the rotoscoping was also accomplished. Finally, the title was finished with color-grading and grain to up the physicality of the lettering and match the lo-if feel of the edit.
